OUR CHURCH GROUps
We run groups to suit people of all ages.
Come along and give us a try!
We take prayer really seriously. therefore we give people as much opportunity to pray as we can. We have prayer groups on Tuesday early morning, Wednesday lunch time, Thursday evenings as well as Saturday prayer breakfast and during Services and other activities, prayers include our World, our Country and our Community.
Sunday School and Junior Church: Children and young people are very welcome to our Sunday morning services and they are very important to us. We have Sunday School for those aged 3-8 and Junior Church for 8-16 years old and an older group 16-18 also meet. Youngsters attend the first part of the service and then leave for their groups.
Our aim is to teach the Bible and Christian values in a fun way that enthuses and encourages them to find out more for themselves. Our groups are small and in junior church the young people will have their own discussions where they seek to explore the meaning and relevance of Biblical stories and events to their lives.
We also run youth Church every other Friday during term time called Hurricane. We seek to inform young people on how to live their faith in a way that is relevant to them in their daily lives.
In addition to that our two high points of the year are the Christmas Nativity and our Summer Prize giving on both these occasions the young people are in charge of the service and everyone is given an opportunity to take part.
We have several house groups that meet in different homes – there is a time to suit all – Wednesday afternoons, Wednesday and Thursday evenings or a Monday afternoon (meets monthly). House groups meet fortnightly and is a time of really good fellowship, lively discussion, debate and prayer.
The Church prayerfully supports the work of the Baptist Missionary Society (BMS.) Our link missionary is Laura-Lee Lovering currently in Peru. She keeps the church informed of her work by regular newsletters, e mails, and visits when on furlough. The use of monthly envelopes, the Birthday Scheme, and the donation of used stamps raises money for the BMS. Our Harvest appeal also supports missionary work through Operation Agri which is part of the Baptist Men's Movement. Our Christmas appeal supports the work of Tearfund.
For ladies who find an afternoon get together more convenient, the Ladies Fellowship meets every other Tuesday afternoon at 2.30 pm - and has done so for the past 80 years! The ladies enjoy fellowship together, and have an interesting and varied programme of speakers and events. Local charities are supported, as is the Sailor's Society with woolly hats and Christmas parcels being donated for the seafarers in Cardiff and other South Wales ports.
A monthly get together for the older members of the community who enjoy a delicious two-course lunch prepared by the church members. God’s love is shown in a practical and loving way.
A ‘pop-in’ time of fellowship for all ages with coffee / tea and light refreshments. 10am – 12pm on alternate Monday mornings.
Chat and Craft
Chat and Craft is a time of fellowship and craft. This includes knitting, crochet, card making and other crafts. Items made are given to the Ladies Fellowship Group to be given to the Sailor's or sold at the annual village fete with money raised given to charity.
